Hair Extensions Lovely, But Only When They're New

In ancient Egypt, women wore wigs. In King Louis XVI's court, women wore extreme wig sculptures. In the time of the dawn of our country, MEN wore the wigs. In the 1960s, women wore little wig-lets. In modern times, women wear weaves.
Fake hair has been around since beauty routines began. And since beauty routines began, hairpieces have become ratty-looking after a period of time. The difference between then and now is that personal hygiene has since become popularized. And nasty, ratty-looking hair is now considered unacceptable. The thing is, some folks either don't seem to notice or don't seem to care. Either way ... yuck.
Extensions are much more popular than most people would ever believe. In fact, unless you either have extensions or install extensions, you are probably thinking you don't know even a fraction of the people who are wearing them. How do you think Ms. Hilton (that famous/infamous young person) has hairstyles that go from an ear length short bob to a middles of the back long and flowing mane in anytime less than a few years? Is it magic? If it were, she could certainly afford it. But what about all those other multitudes? Surely they cannot pay for magic.
Now folks, it's just plain old beauty tricks, a k a extensions. It used to be that extensions were mainly something only women of color wore. They had long pieces of hair braided in to mix with their own hair. Caucasian women's hair has always been (usually) much too slippery for this procedure, and the result has often looked too bulky and unnatural. In recent years, the process has been refined to where only a tiny bead of glue holds in no more than a few strands of hair at a time.
The result has been amazing! Average women of all walks of life can now have the long, thick hair they have always wanted ... for a price. This price is... well... pricey. A tab upward of $1,500 is not unusual. But $1,500 is not always come by very easily. Consequently, many women choose to keep their faux locks longer than recommended. Much, much too long. These tendrils then lose their beauty and become ... icky.
So ladies, do yourselves and the rest of us a favor, when your fake hair starts to look like the horse you rode in on, it's time to change!
